Universities

If you’re lucky enough to be going to university, the first thing you’ll want to find out about your chosen city is what it has to offer from an educational perspective. Home to two leading academic institutions – the University of Leicester and De Montfort – Leicester’s campuses are renowned for their cosmopolitan vibe and forward-thinking ethos’. The former is lauded for its ground-breaking research and business innovation, while the latter has a slightly more artistic slant.

Shopping

The chance to live in luxury city-centre accommodation is a major selling point for Leicester, but you’ll also want to know what the shopping is like! While it’s not the most extensive in the region, the area’s retail centre nonetheless has plenty of independent shops and major department stores to choose from. These primarily spread outwards from the city’s famous clock tower, but can also be found at both St Martin’s Square and The Lanes.

Leicester has dozens of bars and clubs to choose from, many of them offering highly attractive student discounts. These include not only the university’s Student Union – home to the only on-campus O2 Academy in the UK – but also real-ale pubs and all-night-long clubs.
