Every year the bustling city of Sheffield is home to an array of wonderful events, which makes it an exciting place to reside throughout your time at university. With so much going on in your busy student life however, it can be easy to overlook many of the community events that make Sheffield such an enjoyable city to live in. Sheffield is home to a variety of annual music festivals, catering to all musical tastes and preferences. As a student residing in the city, you won’t have a hard time finding brilliant music events to attend all year round. Here are some of the best local music festivals taking place throughout the summer:
Tramlines festival is Sheffield’s biggest and most well-known music event; bringing a huge array of artist and bands to the city for an exciting three days of live music. Held in Hillsborough Park, Tramlines festival will see more than 70 artists perform on four stages for Sheffield’s biggest party of the year.
Tramlines takes place from Friday 20th – Sunday 22nd July, and tickets can be bought online.
For the first time ever Bassfest will be taking place in Sheffield, which is great news for fans of bassline and drum & bass. This all-day long outdoor festival will see over 100 headlining artists take a slot and perform at the Don Valley Bowl in the city.
Bassfest will be taking place on the 4th August, tickets are available online.
A more relaxed music festival that’s taking place in Sheffield this year, the Summer Music Festival is set in the gardens of the Handsworth Old Rectory Community Centre, and will feature 6 live music acts performing on stage. The Summer Music Festival venue will also hold a bar and BBQ, so you can have a tasty bite to eat and grab a drink while you’re relaxing.

Comedy events are always a laugh, and make for some memorable evenings with friends. Sheffield will host a number of comedy events throughout the summer of 2018 for you to check out, here are some of the best:
The Comedy Club will be visiting Mecca Bingo in Sheffield to transform the centre into the setting for a night of 5-star stand up comedy. Three amazing stand up comedy acts will be performing at the venue. You’ll be able to enjoy a meal with the entertainment, and you’ll even have the chance to take part in a game of bingo if you want!
The Comedy Club will be at the Mecca Sheffield from 9pm on Saturday 9th June. Get tickets online!
From 7:30pm - 9:30pm on Saturday 23rd June, TV hypnotist David Bolton will take to The Montgomery performing arts centre in Sheffield to perform his comedy hypnosis show. This show makes for a great night out, and allows you to take centre stage and get fully involved in the performance.

Simon Caine is a comedian who uses his work to express his insecurities, failures and attempts to build a viable career in the entertainment industry. This comedy night will feature Simon Caine at the centre stage, and will also include three additional comedy act; making for a night of fun.
This event will take place on 5th July, and is free to enter (though tips are appreciated).
Set in the main hall of the Old Rectory in Sheffield, this Comedy Club night will feature three brilliant comedian performances. The comedy club night will have a licensed bar, and free nibbles will be provided to each table upon arrival.
The Comedy Club Night will take place on Friday 6th July. Tickets can be found online.
Sheffield is home to many food & drink events every year, ranging from beer tasting sessions to vegan food festivals and much more. With a diverse selection of food & drink events throughout the city, Sheffield has something to suit every taste. Here are some of the best summer food & drink events to come:
Sheffield’s Pieminster restaurant will be hosting a great event called ‘Bangin Bottomless Brunch’ a few times throughout the summer. At Pieminster’s Bangin Bottomless Brunch event, attendees will get to choose from a range of delicious brunch pies and skillets, and will be given unlimited access to Prosecco, Spritz, Bloody Mary’s and Mimosas, so you can make your brunch boozy if you’d like.
Pieminster’s Bangin Bottomless Brunch will take place on June 16th & June 30th.
The Vegan Festival is travelling around the UK this summer, and will be landing in Sheffield on the 15th September. At Sheffield’s 2018 Vegan Festival, you’ll find a selection of passionate visitors and traders offering a huge variety of vegan foods, ranging from hot dogs to cupcakes, burgers to pies and much more.
Sheffield Vegan Festival will take place at the Megacentre; tickets are available online for as low as £2!
Canalside is a new monthly street food market that takes place at Sheffield’s Southbank warehouse, providing visitors with a fun night of street food, craft ales and beers, and great music from top local DJ’s. The Canalside night market offers something new every time, letting you experience new tastes every single month at this event.
